The Technology and Engineering Educators Association of Maryland recognized Hereford with the High School Program Excellence award in 2014. In 2013, the electric vehicle racing program won the National Championship in Irvine, CA. Hereford Tech students dominate the Baltimore Museum of Industry’s wood bridge building program every year, often competing at the national challenge in Chicago. In 2016 Hereford began competing in the submersible robotics SeaPerch program at the US Naval Academy.
The digital fabrication lab, including CAD software, a 3D printer, Epilog Laser Engraver and ShopBot CNC machine, allows Hereford students to learn modern manufacturing processes to help design and build their submersible robots, UAV’s, electric cars, and during the National Technical Honor Society's ‘Community Night’ outreach program. The Regional Manufacturing Institute (RMI) awarded the Hereford High School Engineering Group and Hereford Zone Robotics Champions of Maryland Manufacturing in 2016 for inspiring STEM students to consider jobs in manufacturing.
The Society of Women Engineers honor society of Hereford High School was one of only 60 secondary school teams at a U.S. public, private, or charter school – including those in U.S. territories – selected to build their proposed experiment and have it tested on a NASA-sponsored flight.
